Kokrajhar ready for poll

The Kokrajhar district administration is all set and geared up for the 3rd and last phase parliamentary election schedueld tomorrow in a tight security.

Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Nitin Khade said the administration is fully prepared to conduct the election and ready to hold the election in free and fair manner. 

Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency consists of 10 Assembly segments. The total number of voters in respect of Kokrajhar HPC is 15, 03,190 with 7, 30,582 female voters. 

There are a total of 2049 numbers of polling stations, 130 polling building were identified as very sensitive, 220 sensitively safe and 188 comparatively safe.  

Khade said that preventive measures have been taken up and security intensified and round the clock security vigil. He said necessary arrangement with adequate security were done in border areas - West Bengal inter-state and Indo-Bhutan international border. He said army and paramilitary forces were used for area domination in sensitive areas which has presence of militancy in border areas.

He also said army helicopter would be used for security purpose and in emergency.

Kokrajhar is witnessing a multi-corned contest this time with a total six candidates in fray. The candidates are Urkhao Gwra Brahma (Independent, backed by ABSU and its allied organizations and parties like the BPPF, NDFB (P), UDPF, the PJACBM), Chandan Brahma of Bodoland Peoples' Front  (BPF), Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Naba Kumar Sarania alias Hira Sarania(Independent, backed by  Sanmilita Janagosthiya Aikya Manch), four times sitting MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary(Independent) and Sabda Ram Rabha(Independent).

The People's Coordination for Democratic Right (PCDR), an umbrella organisation of various organisation in the region, on Friday announced Seven more nominations for the ensuing Council Election slated to be held by first week of April next. According to police source,a plastic polytin with packet of two Diwali pataka was notice along the Vivekananda path near Bhai Bhai hotel this afternoon around 12.15 pm and peoples become panicked following the incident.
