Zubeen draws mixed response

Mantu Das is upset after he came to enjoy the bihu function in Bharalumukh on Monday night. The reason is Zubeen Garg as soon as the heart throb pledged to shy away the bihu functions next year.

“It’s a vacuum Zubeen-da is going to create. That too when he was not encouraged to perform in Hindi following the ULFA diktat,” said the degree student of Pragjyotish College.

Same disappointment grips Dhonmoni Barman, Jyothika Borgohain who want Zubeen to perform in Hindi in the bihu functions.

“Zubeen-da need not be taught Assamese culture. Let him perform in Hindi. We the people are behind this genious,” said Jyothika who is angry with a section of Bihu organizers for urging Zubeen to stick to Assamese only in Bharalumukh on Monday night.

But Dhritiman Saikia thinks differently. Talking to AssamTimes, the Cottonian said that he had nothing to object against the performance in Hindi in the functions not in the time of Bihu.

“He performs so many functions other than Bihu. Let him perform in Hindi. But in the Bihu functions only in this month he should perform bihu and Assamese modern songs. Is there any loss?,” he said.

A budding singer who talked to Assam Times, said that performance in Hindi in the Bihu functions are not be encouraged. “I don’t understand why Zubeen is averse to leave Hindi performance in the Bihu functions,” he said.

Thus, Zubeen Garg’s Hindi performance in the Bihu functions have mired in controversies after ULFA diktat. Notably, the organizers in Bharalumukh on Monday night urged him not to perform in Hindi much to the disappointment of hundreds of his fans who clashed with ther committee members. Then Zubeen declared that he won’t perform in the bihu functions from next year.

Using some of the world's most sensitive radio telescopes, including India's largest telescope, uGMRT, the team monitored pulsars, which are rapidly rotating neutron stars, to detect these waves. The pulsars, acting as cosmic clocks, emitted radio beams that were analyzed for changes in arrival times caused by...
