2 nomination papers rejected in Kokrajhar

The nomination of Salkan Murmu of Jharkhand Disom Party (JDP) and Haricharan Basumatary (Independent) found invalid and rejected during scrutiny in No. 5 Kokrajhar  Lok Sabha (ST) constituency. 

Kokrajhar DC and Returning Officer Nitin Khade said the nomination of Murmu and Basumatary were rejected.

A total of nine candidates have filed nomination, of which seven found valid to contest in the ensuing election from Kokrajhar HPC.
Kokrajhar Lok Sabha Constituency, the election to which is on April 24. The date of withdrawal is Wednesday (April 9).

Mild tremor rocks Manipur

A 3.6 magnitude earthquake jolted Manipur on Sunday triggering the fear of the 2015 like one which caused huge damage to the northeastern state.

The earthquake, which originated in Ukhrul district struck the state at around 1.36 AM forced many people to wake up and the panic stricken people in the high rise buildings started coming down to the open space.

There is, however, no report of any casuslty or loss of property.

Pre I-Day encounter in Majuli: No casualty

A group of hardcore militant managed to flee n Majuli during a heavy exchange of fire on Sunday. The encounter took place at Kakh Chapori in the wee hours. Acting on a tip off police raided a hideout at around 4 in the morning. As police reached the spot the militants resorted to firing from nearby woods. When retaliated, the encounter took place which continued for a few minutes before the militants fled. Three walkie talkies, mobile sets, some batteries and two bags containing items of personal use were recovered from the site.
Police are continuing search operations in the area to nab the militants.

Sivasagar Alumni Association magazine published

Sivasagar College Alumni association has published a magazine titled 'Nirbachita Rochona Xombhar' which was inaugurated at Madhav Chandra Bezborua Hall, Sivasagar College, Sivasagar on June 13. The editors of the magazine are Krishna Mishra and Sonit Bijoy Das. The magazine contains selected articles and editorials from all the annual magazines of Sivasagar College till date. It also contains some glorious photos of the college. The magazine is inaugurated by all the ex-magazine secretaries and the ex-principals whose are alive. The magazine is inaugurated on the occasion of the death anniversary of late Padmadhar Chaliha who was the foundation principal of the college. It is published by Katha, Guwahati.
