IIM Shillong recognized as official think tank for Arunachal Pradesh
Indian Institute of Management Shillong (Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research & Analysis) entered into an MoU with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh on 23rd July 2021, Friday at Shillong. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Pema Khandu graced the MoU signing ceremony with his presence. Shri Naresh Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Arunachal Pradesh and Dr. D.P Goyal, Director IIM Shillong represented the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and IIM Shillong respectively.
The MoU is aimed at fostering mutual agreement between the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research Analysis of IIM Shillong and the Finance Planning and Investment Department of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the MoU the Government of Arunachal Pradesh will recognize Dr. APJ Centre of IIM Shillong as an official Think Tank and Knowledge partner of the state government. IIM Shillong will assist the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in developing policies and roadmap for business development in Handloom, Horticulture, Tourism, Logistics and BPO sector etc. IIM Shillong will facilitate the state government in implementing some of its flagship projects by providing critical managerial interventions. It is also agreed that IIM Shillong will organize managerial capacity building programs for the newly recruited officers of Arunachal Pradesh. The MoU has also laid a major emphasis on establishing a satellite or an extension knowledge centre of IIM Shillong at Itanagar. This off campus of IIM Shillong at Itanagar will facilitate in imparting skill training to youths of Arunachal Pradesh, entrepreneurship development, promoting startup ecosystem amongst others.
Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu appreciated the effort of this MoU and suggested that vision of this MoU should be rolled out as action and to make the best effort in the development of the state. He also stressed on the immediate requirement of training and capacity building programs that could be organized often. He assured all out support to IIM Shillong in engagement with the state government.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Atul Kulkarni Member BoG IIM Shillong, expressed his views towards development of NE region and is hopeful that this MoU will benefit the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
