Escalating tension along Assam-Mizoram border

Silchar: Tension is escalating along the Assam-Mizoram border after a group of miscreants from the neighbouring north eastern state pounded on a section of people in the territory of Assam. 

The incident took place suddenly at Lailapur area in Cachar district when a group of Mizo miscreants started indiscriminate firing in the area terrorizing the people of Assam. 

Then some of the miscreants started setting afire as many as ten big and small business establishments owned by the people of Assam. 

A team of Assam Police and central para military force arrived in the spot and disposed the miscreants and it took several hours for the Mizoram police to reach the spot. 

Now heavy presence of security forces has been trying to deescalate tension and more forces are being deployed in the area.  Top police and civil officers from both the states are set to meet on Monday to take the situation under control.  

The Mizoram government has been allegedly occupying the place which belongs to Assam and at times the miscreants keep threatening the local residents along the inter state border.

The incident did not take place "suddenly", it took place AFTER miscreants from Assam escorted by the police came over, burned farms and farmhouses and injured a Mizo using a machete. The terrorization is coming from Assam and it's forces. Mizoram is defending. Do not portray this defence as an aggression.

Customs department officials in Guwahati seized 20,000 bottles of phensedyl cough syrup from a truck in on the way to Dhaka via Agatala. In a bizarre incident that rocked the entire state, two criminals broke into the Morigaon district Chief Judicial Magistrate's court and stole files relating to criminal cases on Thursday night. Police arrested the duo on Friday.The windows were broken and 30 files were stolen to be thrown away in a nearby drain. One of the criminals Bimal Hazarika, however, left behind his wallet from where his driving license was found by police this morning. Police constable Abhijit Baruah once again makes Assam proud when set new record of hitting the highest number of punches in a minute on the boxing pad on Thursday.The 23-year-old cop hit 387 punches in Delhi to break the record he himself set a couple of moths ago in Jorhat. The Centre has raised the margin money for khadi and village industries from Rs 66 cr to Rs 100 cr for the next financial year 2013-2014.This was confirmed by none other than Union Minister of State for MSME (Independent) KH Muniyappa in Guwahati.  He said that the decision was taken at a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and senior officials . Renowned vaishnavite veteran Sonaram Chutia passed away after a brief ailment on Wednesday. Chutia died at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital at 9.15 in the evening. He was 98 and was accorded with cabinet rank 3 years back. Born on June 8 in 1915, Chutia cleared his graduation in science from Cotton College.
