Train blockade in Diphu

Normal train services remained heavily disrupted when people in large number Karbi Anglong district staged rail blockade in Diphu opposing move to amend the Sixth Schedule.

The Karbi people under the banner of the Joint Action Committee thronged the Diphu railway station at 5-30 in the morning alleging that the amendment move would deprive them of the rights they have been enjoying for decades. They sent a fax memorandum to prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh to ensure their right. This has forced several trains to remain stranded in Dimapur for several hours on Monday morning.
