Silchar: Tension is escalating along the Assam-Mizoram border after a group of miscreants from the neighbouring north eastern state pounded on a section of people in the territory of Assam.
The incident took place suddenly at Lailapur area in Cachar district when a group of Mizo miscreants started indiscriminate firing in the area terrorizing the people of Assam.
Then some of the miscreants started setting afire as many as ten big and small business establishments owned by the people of Assam.
A team of Assam Police and central para military force arrived in the spot and disposed the miscreants and it took several hours for the Mizoram police to reach the spot.
Now heavy presence of security forces has been trying to deescalate tension and more forces are being deployed in the area. Top police and civil officers from both the states are set to meet on Monday to take the situation under control.
The Mizoram government has been allegedly occupying the place which belongs to Assam and at times the miscreants keep threatening the local residents along the inter state border.

The incident did not take place "suddenly", it took place AFTER miscreants from Assam escorted by the police came over, burned farms and farmhouses and injured a Mizo using a machete.
The terrorization is coming from Assam and it's forces. Mizoram is defending.
Do not portray this defence as an aggression.
One person is arrested by Nazira police in connection of ATM theft case. According to police Ghanshyam Sharmah (38) stolen the ATM Card of Dilip Das of Nazira and withdrawn Rs.26000/- by using this card. A case is registered in this regard in Nazira police Station under IPC 379.

Braving a rising mercury voters are lined up across 862 booths in the ongoing civic polls in Guwahati city on Wednesday. Assamtimes team came to see the huge queue of voters even before 7 in the morning. Talking Assamtimes, polling authorities hoped that the turn out would cross 80 percent. Altogether 7,06,689 voters are expected to excercise their franchise in the single phase polling on Wednesday.
Worse is yet to come for Asom Gana Parishad. The party now stands crippled with escalating revolt against president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. His alleged autocratic style of functioning is believed to have forced a circle of dedicated party leaders to join the ruling Congress. Vice president Apurba Bhattacharya will join Congress on June 24. His trusted men are also in touch with the ruling party. Party insiders blame Mahanta and his associates for the impending exodus. Amid tight security polling in the Guwahati civic bodies begins across the city. Over 7 lakh voters are free to decide on the fate of172 ward councillors along with 356 area sabha candidates. The polling started at 7 in the morning at 862 stations. Assamtimes team came to see huge queue of voters in Beltola, Paltanbazar, Chandmari areas even before the voting started. Preparations are complete to ensure smooth conduct of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election on Wednesday.There will be 15 zonal magistrates and 72 sector officers monitoring the situation across the city in order to maintain law and order during the election. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has asked health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to visit Mongoldoi immediately to assess the situation after the HIV infected blood transfusion scam at the civil hospital. The chief minister further has announced Rs 5 lakh help to the victims.
