"EKATA YATRA" to be held at Lumding.


Hojai:- In order to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Lumding Sports Association is going to hold All Assam (Prize Money) Marathon Race "EKATA YATRA" on July 6 at Lumding under Hojai District, a  Press Communique stated.

The  Press Communique issued by Lumding Sports Association General Secretary Sudip Kumar Das on Friday  further state's that the marathon race will began on morning 6 am from near Lumding Civil Hospital campus.

Participant's  coming from outside will be provided accommodation  (fooding and lodging) from 5th July evening to 6th July Upto afternoon's Lunch. Outside Participant's has to report the association within the stipulated time 5 pm of 5th July.

The winner's will be awarded with Rs 7,000 (1st Prize); Rs 5,000 (2nd Prize); Rs.3,000 (3rd Prize) and Seven (7) Consolation prize's.

Manipur tribals pressurize Centre

The Manipur tribal organizations functioning in New Delhi start mounting pressure on the Centre for an amicable solution to the issues confronting them for decades.

The Delhi-based Manipur Tribals’ Forum along with 5 delegates of Autonomous District Council Churachandpur from Manipur met President Pranab Mukherjee and Union tribal development minister Jual Oram on Tuesday demanding Centre’s intervention to bring political solution to the problems in Manipur.

They further submitted memorandum to the President and tribal affairs minister outlining the major concerns of the hill people and got assurance from the delegations that they would do the needful.
The delegations requested the President to meet MHA Internal Security secretary Ashok Prasad, who visited Churachanpur on Tuesday spending about 3 hours with the people of Churachandpur.

The team strongly urged the President that the secretary must be consulted before he makes any decision to the bills, when the bills come to his office for consideration.

Civic poll fever: 28 nominations

A total 28 numbers of candidates filed their nomination papers for election to seven wards of Raha town committee on Wednesday. The candidates accompanied by large number of supporters arrived at the Circle officer's office to file their nominations dancing with supporters, drummers were able to draw attention of the common men of the town.

Unlike in previous civic election poll , hectic political activity is being witnessed this time. Candidates of all major political parties like the Cong ( I ), BJP, and AGP filed their nomination papers apart from the independent candidates. BJP and Cong ( I ) candidates filed their nominations for all the 7 wards while the AGP has candidates from only 4 wards. There are no AGP candidates in fray from ward no. 2, 3 and 6.

Apart from the party candidates altogather 10 independent candidates have also filed nominations for the town committee poll from ward nos. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. There are no independent candidates in fray from ward nos. 1 and 7.

It may be mentioned here that the next chairman for the Raha town committee has been reserved for woman candidate.

Protest in Dhubri over Advani attempt

Dhubri on Friday witnessed strident protest against BJP leader L.K. Advani’s alleged attempt to politicize the BTAD violence. Hundreds of protesters burnt Advani's effigy a day after he had said that the violence should not be seen as a communal incident.
