BJP wins 2 out of 3 constituencies in Udalguri

Udalguri: 
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and member in the Rajya Sabha from Assam, Biswajit Daimary won  by a landslide margin of over 35,000 votes defeating his arch-rival Karuna Kanta Swargiary of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) from Paneri LAC constituency. In the 2011 Assam assembly elections, Kamali Basumatari of BPF won from the constituency defeating Santiuse Kujur of India National Congress (INC) by a margin of 556 votes.In the 2016 state assembly elections, Kamali Basumatari again won from the constituency defeating independent candidate Nanda Ram Baro by a margin of 15,802 votes but this time the incumbent MLA from Paneri LAC was denied a ticket and Karuna Kanta Swargiary was projected. n Udalguri LAC United People's Party Liberal ( UPPL) candidate and Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Deputy CEM, Govindo Basumatary won defeating  Bodoland People's Front (BPF) strongman and Cabinet Minister,Rihon Daimary who continuously represented the constituency for four term holding important cabinet portfolios for three terms. In Mazbat LAC , sitting MLA and Bodoland People's Front (BPF) candidate,Charan Boro retained the seat defeating BJP candidate, Jitu Kishan who is known as a close aide of NEDA convenor Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

3 of a family gets lifer for murder

UDALGURI: In a significant judgement the court of Nirmali Talukdar,Additional District & Sessions Judge, Udalguri sentenced three members of a family to rigorous life imprisonment on Wednesday.The trio Gyanendra Das,Chintarani Das and Utpal Das were accused in a murder case vide Kalaigaon PS case no.23/2012 under sections 341/302/34 of IPC.Reportedly, on the evening of March 18,2012 one Sailendra Das was on his way back to home on his bicycle when he was accosted by a group of unruly people armed with sticks and sharp  weapons brutally attacked the person leaving him in critical state,he later succumbed to his injuries in Mangaldai Civil...

Man trampled to death by wild jumbos

UDALGURI: The Indo-Bhutan border villages in Udalguri district-region fraught with human-animal conflict and bloodshed and continue to witness brutality of wild jumbos.  In yet another incident, one Mardia Munda (25), a tea garden labour , was trampled to death by wild jumbos at Nalanadi under Dimakuchi PS in Udalguri district on Wednesday.Reportedly, the labour was on his way back home after plucking green leaves when he was confronted by wild jumbo trampling him to death. The local villagers witnessed his soul-less body at about 3 pm when the police and forest officials reached the spot. His body has been retrieved and sent for post-mortem.

Bandh disrupts normal life in Udalguri

TANGLA: The Tangla Police,solving the kidnapping case of a minor girl who was missing since June 27 last,apprehended four persons and rescued the minor girl on Sunday.
