'BJP government gave lolipop of fake promises to Adivasi community' : MP Kujur
UDALGURI: The last wage agreement signed between Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) and the Consultative Committee of Plantation Associations (CCPA), Assam Valley branch, expired on December 31 last year and till date the new wage agreement has not been signed. The government has formed a committee but it has not taken any decision. The tea garden labourers should have got a hike of wages to Rs.350 from January 1. But contrary to that the government has notified that the wages were hiked to Rs.167 from existing Rs.130 that to applicable from March 1. Where will the amount of Rs.30 increment for previous two months vanish?Will the sum of money amounting nearly 450 crores go for electoral expenses of the saffron party in the forthcoming Parliamentary election.This were the questions and apprehensions expressed by Rajya Sabha, Member of Parliament and Organizing Secretary of ACMS cum Secretary of Mangaldai Branch ACMS, Santiuse Kujur at a press conference here in the office of Mangaldai Branch ACMS in Tangla of Udalguri district on Thursday. Addressing the media persons Kujur lamented that the State, Labour minister should have voiced towards the apathy of tea garden labourers but contrary he is acting as an agent of the tea garden management. "The saffron party had promised of hiking the daily wages to Rs.350 if voted to power,but the government has betrayed the Adivasi community by failing to keep up to their words.The BJP had given a lollipop of fake promises to the Adivasi community "alleged Kujur. The parliamentarian raising the tempo of 2019 Parliamentary election said that the Adivasi community will give the government a befitting reply in polls. "The state government should sign a fresh wage agreement within August next and make the tea garden labourers get their due wages. We demand the government to address the issue immediately" Kujur added. Of the 792 registered tea gardens in the state , 685 are in the Brahmaputra Valley and the rest 107 are in Barak Valley.The ACMS the registered body under the Indian Trade Union Act has control over 685 gardens throughout Brahmaputra Valley.

An agent of Fair Price Shop of Sonapani village under Panery PS of Udalguri district had to face the fierce of irate villagers when the PDS priority scheme rice meant to distributed to villagers was sold in open market. Reportedly Gokul Deka the agent of the fair price shop sold 50 kg PDS rice to one Jabla Boro whereas he was entitled for 35 kg rice. The villagers on suspicion interrogated Jabla and learned that the agent had sold an additional 15 kg rice at higher price. A ravaging inferno gutted at least five shops near Dimakuchi police station of Udalguri district. Fire broke out at about 11.30 pm on Friday night. The fire soon spread to a few shops located nearby. Fire-fighters had a tough time as they battled flames before finally succeeding in dousing the blaze. The reason for the blaze is suspected to be from a shop which stocked nearly 150 litres of petrol. Property worth more than ten lakhs were gutted in the flames.
