Bhalukpong Thrill

I don’t know how many times I have gone to see Bhalukpong. Also, I don’t know why I love this place so much. Bhalukpong, a destination for refreshing health and soul. It awestruck me a lot. Bhalukpong is a boarder place between two sisters state Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Bhalukpong is located in between West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh and Sonitpur district of Assam, lies in the coordinate 27.011°N 92.646°E. Bhalukpong is about 56 km away from Tezpur, 5 km from Tipi, 100 km from Bomdila and 335 km to Towang towards north along with NH no. 229. The small town is situated at 213 metres above the sea level; Bhalukpong is the entry point to Arunachal. The place is famous for archaeological ruins of King Bhaluka who was the grandfather of King Bana of Mahabharata fame and an ancient ruler of the region. A historical fort of 10th - 12th Century AD is situated in the foothills of the region and one can see the stone remains of the fort. Some important remains of King Bahluk’s capital and his grandson Bana are preserved here. The Kameng River Called in Arunachal Predesh and Jia Bharali in Assam flow through Bhalukpong providing ample scope for adventure tourism. It is also a beautiful picnic spot.  Fish angling and river rafting at Jia Bharali are the principal tourist activities in Bhalukpong.

Tourist attractions in Bhalukpong include the Pakhui Game Sanctuary and Tipi Orchid Research centre, situated about 3 km away from Bhalukpong and hosts over 2600 cultivated orchids from 80 different species. The best time to visit this centre is between April and May, when one can see the exotic orchid collection in full bloom. The Nameri National Park is the closest park from Bhalukpong. The annual festival Nyethidow of the Aka tribe is celebrated in January at Bhalukpong, Thrizino. Bhalukpong witnesses the devastating Indo-China war of 1962. The road from Tezpur town to Bhalukpong passes through the Nameri National Park along with the beautiful saal and teak forests. The lodging pleasure at Bhaukpong is something special. The Prashanti Tourist Lodge of Govt. of Assam is the heritage one. One can’t forget the pleasure and refreshing night at the first floor balcony in the midst of Jia Bharali’s sound which passes near the Prashanti.

For the information of the tourists, there is an Office of Tourist Information Officer, Govt. of Assam. One can get enough information from the office in the field of tourism. Now a day the bank of river jia bharali of Bhalukpong has become one of the significant picnic spots of Assam. Thousands of peoples come here to enjoy the winter. Along with Prashanti there is a Tourist Information Office of Govt. of Assam. Presently Mr. Madhab Das is the Asstt. Tourist Information Officer (ATIO) of Bhalukpong office. Mr. Das is a very gentle young energetic, nature lover, helpful person. One can contact him for useful information’s. The Iora cottage under the umbrella of Assam Tourism development Corporation (ATDC) also provides fooding and lodging facility at Bhalukpong. There is a very good facility for rafting, one of the most amazing adventure sports at Bhalukpong. There are a number of trekking and hiking trails in and around Bhalukpong. Adventure seekers can enjoy fishing and angling along different stretches of Jia Bharali River.
