Actor joins TMC

Noted film actor Biju Phukan joined Trinamool Congress in presence of Mamata Banerjee at a function in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Phukan, who once contested the assembly polls from AGP told the TMC boss that he was prepared to fight the polls.

People thronged in thousands at the sarusajai Stadium to attend the TMC rally where Mamata Banerjee drew appreciation.

Ms. Banerjee clarified, while addressing a party rally in Guwahati, that Trinamool Congress was a part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government when it was headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee but her party would not support any party that incites communal violence and hatred on the basis of religion, caste, creed or community.

Congress loses two leaders in Assam

In a major setback for the Congress, which has been struggling hard to regain strength since 2014, has today lost two of its prominent faces in Assam. Sitting MLA of Badarpur, Jamaluddin Ahmed and former MLA of Dergaon Aroti Kachari Hazarika passed away. The Dergaon politican was 59. Guwahati : In a first, AASU leadership has reined in Samujjal Bhattacharya saying that the yet to be inducted adviser is not competent to make any statement on behalf of the state's influential student body. Bus accident at Golaghat, all passengers safe

A Dimapur-Guwahati bus has, on Saturday, met with an accident at Golaghat. As per reports the bus while heading to Dimapur accidentally veered off the main road in the wee hours at Garampani. ULFA(I) Claims responsibilty of the Digboi blast

The United Liberation Front of Assam(Independent) Assam has claimed the responsibility of the blast that occurred at upper Assam town of Digboi, near an army camp. Taking the responsibility, the banned outfit's has issued statement.
