WWF-India Celebrates International Day for Biological Diversity with Awareness Program

Guwahati: WWF-India Assam State Office marked the International Day for Biological Diversity on 22nd May with an engaging awareness program held at the Aquaculture and Biodiversity Centre, supported by the Zoology Department of Gauhati University. The event aimed to educate students from various colleges and universities about the significance of biodiversity conservation.

Mrs. Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya, the State Coordinator of WWF-India Assam State Office, delivered a warm welcome address to the participants, which included students from esteemed institutions such as the Department of Environment Science, Gauhati University, National Law University & Judicial Academy, Assam Don Bosco University, Gauhati Commerce College, Handique Girls' College, and SB Deorah College.

The attendees had the opportunity to explore the Aquaculture and Biodiversity Centre as they were guided by the Research Fellows. Additionally, Professor Dandadhar Sarma from the Zoology Department of Gauhati University provided a brief introduction to the center.

In the auditorium of the Zoology Department, the State Coordinator of WWF-India AAPSO delivered a presentation on this year's theme, "From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity," emphasizing the importance of the International Day for Biological Diversity. The students were encouraged to contribute to biodiversity conservation and were provided with practical ideas for preserving the biodiversity around them.

Following the presentation, a Biodiversity walk was organized in the Botanical Garden of Gauhati University. WWF officials and Research Fellows from the Wildlife Science Division of Gauhati University led the participants on a trail, where they documented various fauna and flora with the assistance of experts.

The half-day program concluded with heartfelt appreciation for WWF's efforts in creating a memorable experience on the International Day for Biological Diversity. The participants expressed their desire to be part of future programs that promote biodiversity conservation.
