Promises pouring in

Promises in the name of proposal are flooding the vote on account for six months tabled by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday.

It is vote on account to be applicable from April to September this years in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. But the proposals are more than what would have been included if it would have been a full fledged budget.    

Gogoi, who holds the finance portfolio, has proposed more funds for altogether 18 development boards apart from introduction of pension for varsity employees.

“This is what the steps to woo the voters,” experts told Assam Times. In yet another attempt to woo the voters, Gogoi has proposed financial assistance for the poor people in the time of bihu.

The vote on account seeking Rs 28,467 crore money further proposed an engineering college in Diphu apart from a hills medical college.    

The chief minister has proposed a sericulture school in his own home constituency giving Nilomoni Sen Deka a seed farm to set up in Barpeta. The flood ravaged Dhemaji district would get Rs 1,000 crore. Barak valley has also got a hundred crore package.

Moreover, the government has proposed a child development council, river research along with an institute for training of navy and air force.
