Steps on to ban smoking

Come Thursday. Smokeless tobacco would not be available across the state. The Bill to ban sale, transport, display, consume and advertise smokeless tobacco will come into force.

Governor JB Patnaik has given his consent to the much-hyped bill cleared by the House in the winter session.

The government is clearing the decks to strictly enforce the law after the legislation received ascent from the Governor.

Days are not far when the government will bring yet another legislation to ban smoking tobacco to deal with the impending health hazard in the state. This was what health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters in the Assam Assembly premises.
