Stormy note in Assembly

The Assam Assembly’s brief session gets underway on Monday with a stormy note.

As Governor JB Patnaik endorsed the government measures to restore peace in the state efficiently dealing with the law and order situation, the Opposition members stood up in protest against it.

The Opposition legislators said that the Government has failed on the law and order front. The ruling party members equally countered the Opposition resulting in an uproar situation.  Amid the defeaning din, Patnaik stopped his speech within a minute.

A set of news legislation is lined up to be moved on Monday.   

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi, who holds the finance portfolio will table the vote on account for four months on February 13 in lieu of a full fledged budget in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The government will be able to run the proceedings smoothly because of the disunity among the Opposition parties in the wake of the Rajya Sabha polls.

Tiger Carcass Found in Kaziranga National Park

The body of a tiger was discovered in the Horonbali Chapori area of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, located in Assam’s Biswanath district, on Monday. Guwahati Police has successfully busted a cybercrime gang involved in a major fraud operation. Eight individuals were arrested following a raid at a lodge in Boragaon. Government Extends AFSPA in Manipur Amidst Ethnic Clashes

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) today extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, to six police stations across five districts in Manipur.
