A group of seven research scholars from Assam Don Bosco University’s Research Department presented their PhD registration synopses, 3rd February 2014.
Some 40 faculty members and research fellows took part in the presentations.
It is the first batch for the year 2014 and there will be one more doctoral synopses presentation in the autumn semester for another batch.
Each scholar made a 15 minute PowerPoint presentation backed with written work before a panel of five judges. Besides judicious clarifications and suggestions made by the panel of judges, the audience too interacted with the scholars during the allotted half hour.
The topics presented included two researches on Social Work, and one each for North East Indian Studies, Comparative Religion, Computer Science Engineering, Physics, and Language Studies.
The panel of judges included Vice-Chancellor Dr Stephen Mavely, Registrar Dr Basil Koikara, Controller of Examinations Dr Francis Fernandez, HoD Eelectrical and Electronics Engineering Dr Sakuntala Laskar and Director of Research Dr JN Vishwakarma.
Concluding the sessions which lasted three hours Dr Vishwakarma reminded the audience “Don Bosco University is different… it is the only University in which the Vice Chancellor sets aside half a day with his team to listen to all the presentations, and make constructive criticism.
He added further saying, “we believe in the quality of teaching and the quality of thesis.”
The scholars had earlier completed their mandatory six month course work.
The present batch is scheduled to complete their research and submit their thesis and appear for defense and viva voce in two or three year’s time.
The PHD program in Assam Don Bosco University was started in 2011. The first batch of PhD holders are due to be conferred the titles later this year.
