Guwahati got rid of yet another explosion. Two hardcore ULFA linkmen are believed to have killed in an explosion that took place inside a vehicle carrying them in Karbi Anglong on Friday.

The incident took place at Seventh Mile area in Umrangsu when the linkmen duo were believed to have been carrying explosives to Guwahati. The duo were killed on the spot when the bomb went off suddenly.

The vehicle remained mangled. The face of the bodies were left beyond recognition. Top ranked reached the spot. Security forces are fanning in and around the area to trace the point where the explosives were carried.

Vaisnavite veteran dies

Renowned vaishnavite veteran Sonaram Chutia passed away after a brief ailment on Wednesday. Chutia died at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital at 9.15 in the evening. He was 98 and was accorded with cabinet rank 3 years back. Born on June 8 in 1915, Chutia cleared his graduation in science from Cotton College. Truck load of wine seized in Dhemaji

Youth arrest for child rape

Karimganj police on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a youth for torturing a five-year-old girl. The five-year-old girl, who went missing on January 28 evening, was found lying in a paddy field with severe injuries near her house at Pinnagar village on January 29. Her father alleged that she was raped by the youth, who was arrested by the police on the basis of the allegation. Barring a few stray incidents polling for the first phase of panchayat election are over registering a huge turn out in 8 districts on Wednesday.The polling began at 7 in the morning and ended at 3 in the afternoon where 28,680 candidates are in the fray in eight districts. ARSU protest disrupts train services

ULFA claims responsibility of explosion

ULFA has owned up the responsibility of the strike in oil pipeline at Makum on Tuesday. In a statement, the outfit claimed to have used PMTD technology to blow up the oil pipeline which took place on Tuesday morning.
