Gogoi meets Rahul Gandhi

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is scheduled to hold a brainstorming meeting with AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Saturday.
AICC sources told assamtimes that Lok Sabha poll preparations are likely to dominate the meeting scheduled at 3-30 in the evening. Gogoi is likely to finalise Gandhi’s visit to Assam towards the end of February. Selection of poll candidates  are also likely to find place in the meeting to be held at the AICC headquarters.

Additional forces to BTAD

The Centre will soon rush additional security forces to contain the law and order situation in BTAD where 8 people were killed in four attacks by NDFB-S. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi told assamtimes in New Delhi that he talked to prime minister to apprise him of the situation. He further said that the protests against NDFB-S should not be allowed to turn violent where the common people will have to bear the brunt.

Daimary renomination likely

BPF member in the Rajya Sabbha Biswajeet Daimary is likely to be elected if BPF leadership is to be believed.BPF sources told assamtimes in New Delhi that the party has almost reached the deal with Congress. The ruling party will get two seats while BPF would get the remaining seat. The alliance party has already decided to renominate Daimary to the upper House.Notably, the election commission is scheduled to issue a notification for holding the Rajya Sabha polls for three seats  to fall vacant in April following the end of the term for Bhubneswar Kalita from Congress, Biswajeet Daimary and Birendra Prasad Biashya from AGP. Polling is scheduled to take place on February 7.

Gogoi promises 12 seats

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday assured Rahul Gandhi of a wonderful performance in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.AICC sources told assamtimes that during the one hour long meeting with Gogoi at the party headquarters in New Delhi, the AICC vice president asked Gogoi to ensure victory in all seats. Gogoi is believed to have promised victory in 12 seats.APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita also was present in the meeting. Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Guwahati also figured in the meeting.

KMSS stages dharna in Delhi

ULFA chief in Delhi guest house

A day after he was detained by the Bangladesh authorities, ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa was pushed backed to BSF on Wednesday before being air dashed to New Delhi. According to home ministry sources, Rajkhowa is being kept at a government guest house and is busy in preparing modalities for talk with the government. Peace talk: Safe passagefor Rajkhowa; announcement soon

Its final. Stage is set to kickstart peace process in Assam a few days after the chairman of the outfit Arabinda Rajkhowa was captured in Bangladesh and was handed over to India. Centre-NDFB meet not successful

The first ever negotiations between NDFB and Centre seems to have fallen flat as the Bodo rebels are likely to reject the suggestions for complete surrender in the line of the DhD(J). According to information, the Union home ministry officers suggested the rebels to completely surrender to carry forward the peace process which they have not reportedly not agreed. But both the sides are tight lipped on the outcome of the meeting.

Centre-NDFB talk in progress in Delhi

For the first time since they announced ceasefire with the government, the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) is holding a crucial round of talks with the Centre in Delhi on Wednesday. The Centre is represented by Union home secretary G K Pillai while ten members of the Bodo rebel outfit is attending the talk led by General secretary Gobinda Basumatary and publicity secretary S Sanjaang. Top level sources say the revel outfit fighting for a seperate Bodoland is discussing the ten pont charter od their demanded sent to the Centre on May this year.

Peace atop NC hills: CM to meet Chidambaram

A fruitful peace process is set to come up in the discussion between Assam Chief Minister Taun Gogoi and Union home minister P Chidambaram in Delhi on Tuesday. Chidambaram is set to discuss the law and order situation in the hills district before going to prepare the roadmap for restoration of peace and also the adherence of ceasefire ground rules by the DHD and DHD(J) rebel outfits. Notably, the Chief Minister recently visited Haflong a few days back to study the law and order in the hills district.
