Assam celebrated Silpi Divas across the state to commemorate the death anniversary of Jyotiprasad Agarwalla on Friday. Cultural functions, Jyoti Sangeet competitions and seminars were organized in many places to mark the occasion. The central function at took place in Tezpur, the birthplace of the first Assamese film maker.

What wrong goes with Chakma talents

A group of Chakma people from Mizoram staged dharna in New Delhi on Sunday alleging that even after clearing the entrance test, Chakma students from the north eastern state was denied admission in the premier medical colleges. Tight security to avert I-Day strike

AJYCP talks with NEEPCO, Govt on Monday

The Assam Government, NEEPCO and  Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad is set to hold a tripartite talks on Monday to break the impasse over the Lower Subansiri hydel project and Ranganadi project. Prez Retreat in North East

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has urged President Ram Nath Kovind to set up a Presidential retreat in the north eastern region. Sonowal proposed it when he made the newly elected president at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on Saturday.He said the region of eight states would be happy to have a Presidential retreat in lines with the Retreat Building at Mashobra in Shimla and the Rashtrapati Nilayam in Hyderabad.According to an official statement, “A Presidential Retreat in the North-east, besides the existing ones in the North and South will symbolise the unity of the country apart from signifying the unity of our diverse cultures and people of the country."

CBI to probe Lafiqul killing

The Central Bureau of Investigation is likely to probe in the sensational killing of amsu student leader in Kokrajhar which runs to in a hail of shock and anger across the state. Government forms SIT to inquire into killing of ABMSU President

Assam Government has constituted a Special Investigation Team headed by senior IPS Officer Anurag Tankhar having experience working with National Investigation Agency to undertake a through probe leading to the killing of ABMSU President Lafiqul Islam and corroborate the findings. This was stated in a press release from Chief Minister's office on Friday. Government of Assam also recommended CBI inquiry into the killing of ABMSU President and sent a letter to Union Home Ministry, the release said.
