JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Senior scribe passes away

Guwahati: City based senior scribe Simanta Bhagawati, who was associated with The Assam Tribune, passed away this (Saturday 21 April) morning. 14 yr old gangraped in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: In yet another shocking incident, five miscreants gangraped a 14 year old girl before dumping on the roadside in Lakhimpur on Thursday. The incident took place in Dalhat where local resident rescued the victim in the critical condition in the wee hours. Setback for Centre: NGT for fresh panel to study megadam

All out against Citizenship amendment move

NEW DELHI: Nearly three dozen organizations,mostly from Assam, have strongly opposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 as they met the Joint Parliament Committee in New Delhi on Tuesday. ACS officer among 5 held in coal scam

GUWAHATI: A CID team set up to probe the multi crore coal scam in Barak valley has arrested 5 officers on Wednesday leaving hint of more arrested in this connection.
