Plight of a tiny hamlet atop Dima Hasao

A roadless village called Lodi Kachari consist of 41 houses in Dima Hasao district is yet to see the light of development. The villagers had to climb 1748 meters range of Hempeupet Borail mountain to reach the nearest Haflong town as the village is situated on the valley in between Hempeupet Borail mountain and Thumjang mountain.

There are no means of any road-railways communication - Electricity - Medical PHC in the village, the people of Lodi Kachari suffered a lot, said Person Longmailai the Gaon Bora of Lodi Kachari on Monday. The villagers also alleged that they were not provided any Schemes grant from the Council and if the Government does not seek for that very situation then the villagers should have to left the village in coming days.

In fact, the people of Lodi Kachari are the most neglected people of the district, they lamented. It is learnt that they appealed to the Elected Member (EM) of the council to take appropriate steps at the earliest in the district council office at Haflong. The village was burnt down twice during the major conflicts between Dimasa-Karbi (2005) and Dimasa-Zeme Naga (2009), claiming many innocent lives and displacing hundreds.

A two-day Seminar will organise by the Journalists Union of Assam Haflong Branch (JUAHB) at Haflong in Dima Hasao district on December 21 and 22. All Assam Journalists, Assam Minister of Information and Public Relations, Dainik Agradoot Editor-in-chief Kanak Sen Deka and Press Media will attend the Seminar. The police personnel arrested one Leader Langthasa for allegedly selling venison at Maibang market in Dima Hasao district. Police have recovered 12 kilograms of venison from Langthasa on Sunday. The accused was natives of Maibang and have settled in Semkhor village. During interrogation, the accused confessed to having shot dead the deer with the gun in the forests near his village and were selling its meat at a price of Rs 300 to Rs 400 per kilogram. Later on it is learnt that the police were paid and released the accused person without any harm. According to the Section 9 of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 - the hunting and the intent to hunt of wild animals is prohibited.
The people of Langting, in Dima Hasao district, suffered most as there are no Pharmacist at Langting block Primary Health Care (PHC). There are 3 sub centres under Langting PHC - Manderdisa, Hathikali and Mupa. However instead of the pharmacist, the 4th grade Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM) and General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) are selling the medicines. Lack of pharmacist may endenger life of the patients, said the people of Langting.
Chief Ministers' Anna Surakshya Yojana provides rice at Rs.6 rate to 20 lakh below poverty line (BPL) families. However, transactions relating to subsidised foodgrains were just kept on paper, the foodgrains are being sold at higher price of Rs 8 instead. According to the scheme, each family are supposed to get 10 kgs of foodgrains but the people are getting only 9 kg, said the people of Mahur. This illegal business took place at Mahur Cooperative in Dima Hasao district. Under interrogation, the salesman reasoned the lack of coins to return to customers.
The salary of all the service holders under Normal Sector of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) are in pending since August 2013 due to lack of fund in the Council. The required monthly budget in Normal sector is Rs. 3.90 Crore. This was disclosed by the Dima Hasao CEM on its  4th session of 11th Council Assembly. 
A new village is recognised on the way to Lumding via Maibang in Dima Hasao district. The village is named "Thaosendisa" and is approved by the district council. Thaosendisa is approximately 7 km from Kalachand and 14 km from Maibang and 67 km from district headquater Haflong.

A Peace rally was held Tuesday morning at Haflong against the brutal killing of engineer Rajib Kumar Pathak. The rally was organised under the banner of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC). Students, Teachers and various government employees also participated in the rally. Pathak was shot dead by unidentified Gunmen in his office in Haflong on November 22.
