Illegal sale of subsidised rice at Mahur

Chief Ministers' Anna Surakshya Yojana provides rice at Rs.6 rate to 20 lakh below poverty line (BPL) families. However, transactions relating to subsidised foodgrains were just kept on paper, the foodgrains are being sold at higher price of Rs 8 instead. According to the scheme, each family are supposed to get 10 kgs of foodgrains but the people are getting only 9 kg, said the people of Mahur. This illegal business took place at Mahur Cooperative in Dima Hasao district. Under interrogation, the salesman reasoned the lack of coins to return to customers.

Speaking over phone, the bank authority told that the LDRB bank will reopen in August 2014. The Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) scam accused RH Khan and Mohet Hojai may be freed soon from Guwahati Central Jail as the National Investigative Agency (NIA) has submitted its NOC to the court for their release. The Army recovered a cache of arms and ammunition after an encounter with extremists in Dima Hasao district on Wednesday. An exchange of gunfire took place in the morning between the 9th Madras Regiment and some militants near Impoi village under Mahur police station. Security forces on Sunday nabbed an NSCN-IM militant near Haflong in Dima Hasao district of Assam. He has been identified as Ishambe Pame. The rebel was involved in the kidnapping of district elementary education officer Thangpuia Namlai of Haflong recently, said an Assam Rifles (AR) official. Acting on tip-off from its intelligence wing, the Haflong-based AR unit, along with Assam Police, launched an operation in the area and nabbed the Naga militant.
Two suspected Dimasa National Democratic Front (DNDF) terrorists were arrested on Thurday evening in a joint operation by the police and the army. According to police officers, the arrested militants were identified as Stamp Dimasa alias Joisholal Hagjer (36) and Probesh Hagjer (24). They were arrested in the wee hour from a locality under Maibang police station in Dima Hasao district. Two more persons, however, managed to flee, the officers said. The security agencies also recovered one AK-56 rifle and its 20 rounds of live ammunition, two mobile handsets with SIM cards, some cash and a car from their procession.
