The Brahmaputra Riverboats Design Challenge (TBRDC) for 2014 is being announced. The competition is to design for a 1-2 person manually operated boat suitable for local fisherfolk. The event is going to be held in March next year at the Brahmaputra river, Guwahati. Participation in the 2014 challenge will be limited to a maximum total of 10 competing teams.
The competition is expected to include an exciting race for all participants across some of the strongest currents of the river. However, the entire Challenge will be judged on the results of this and also several other criteria, including economy, replicability, applicability, originality, and so on.
An initiative of The Research & Innovation Ashram (The RIA), Guwahati, the Challenge is being positioned as one example of the many windows of opportunity that will increasingly become possible across North East India, to establish robust local matrices for constructive global engagement into the future. At the same time, a central theme of the event is to promote a culture of indigenous innovations for local needs and situations.
