Stage set for NRC update

 Decks are clear to update the National Register of Citizens. The centre has already approved the revised modalities for updating the NRC including the names of persons from the electoral rolls up to the midnight of March 24, 1971 and their descendents.

This was what Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju told Parliament on Wednesday.

He said that the NRC 1951 would be updated by including the names of persons from the electoral rolls adding that the Centre has cleared Rs 140.58 crore has been released to the Assam Government.

According to the minister, NRC update work has been targeted to be completed within three years.
