Events for tuition kids by DBU

Since 12th November, the Assam Don Bosco University students are holding six events leading up to the major celebration of the Evening Class Project Annual Day, 26th November. The one hour evening tuition class project is called Swastyayan… a commitment’ (meaning a noble service preformed for fighting out evils).

“The events are divided into three categories: literary, cultural and sports,” says Coordinator of the Project, Mr Victor Nazary from Social Work Department.

Starting with drawing competition on 12th Nov, there was poem and story writing competitions enthusiastically participated by some 60 students.

On 13th November there was singing and dance competition in which some 30 students eagerly took the stage giving a tough time to the panel of judges.

The events on 16th November will be outdoor events in the Azara village playground where they will have team games.

On the Annual Day Celebrations scheduled to be held in the University Auditorium, 26 November, both children and their parents are expected to participate.

Some 150 students both from the Schools of Technology and Social Sciences have volunteered to take evening tuition classes for over 130 high school children from Azara neighbourhood, especially from the marginalized section of society.

Children from classes VII, VIII, IX and X hold daily classes under the supervision of their elder brothers and sisters in the very class rooms the engineers and social workers study.

While Engineering students and Teachers of Don Bosco College of Engineering and Technology teach Maths and Science, both students and teachers of Master in Computer Application and School of Social Sciences take subjects like Social Studies and English as well as spoken English and personality development.
