An awareness programme on avenue for woman economic empowerment held at Tangla on September 21. The programme which was held at RC Saharia Memorial Teachers Training College hall,Tangla was organised by social worker Dr.Dipankar Saharia in association with State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD). More than three hundred woman representatives from 120 nos SHG covering 40 villages took part in the day long programme. Social Worker Kamakhya Barman in his welcome speech introduced all the guests to the people present after plantation of a few orange saplings in the college campus.
Inaugurating the programme, social worker and former civil service officer Dr.Dipankar Saharia (son of former Assam home and education minister late Ramesh Ch. Saharia) remarked that nearly eighty percent people living in the villages depend on agriculture. It was really difficult to make any progress without giving importance to agriculture sector. According to him traditional approach to agriculture in Assam could not help villagers. He strongly suggested market oriented approach in agriculture production in Assam. He also stressed the need for creating work culture among people of Assam with more and more participation of woman. Dr.Saharia suggested a few methods to enhance production. In this regard he mentioned cultivation of banana,orange,lemon or bamboo etc. He also spoke on recent Food Security Bill.
Anupam Dutta,Officer in-charge,Extension Centre, SIRD, Bezera attending the session as a resource person explained on the role and functioning of SIRD in promoting methods suitable for rural people specially for woman. He requested woman to take up projects like tailoring, beautician etc suitable for modern times. Dr.Kabyajyoti Bora spoke on animal and bird keeping by village woman for self sufficiency. According to him Bonaraja species of birds were most suitable for Assam climate which are disease resistant and easy to keep at home. Jayanta Saharia, Project Asstt. SIRD explained about the role of village woman in promoting economic up liftment of woman. He advised woman not to depend on their husband,sons or daughters even in later ages but to earn their own for self dependency.

Health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma buys band name again after Saradha Chief claimed to have paid him Rs 3 crore.In a letter to CBI on April 6, Sen said, “another high level person who has dramatically cheated me is Himanta Biswa Sarma. In one and half years, we have given him not less than Rs 3 crore, in cash and some vouchers have been signed by his office executives by some other means."Sen further claimed to have paid Matang Sinh for NETV, Manoranjana Gupta for Frontier TV, DY 365 besides Amguri MLA Anjan Dutta crores to rupees.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is seriously contemplating handing over some cases against chit fund companies to CBI.These include the Saradha Group, whose chairman Sudipto Sen was arrested on Tuesday. The move comes after Sen wrote to CBI naming several politicians including a cabinet minister and owners of some private television news channels.
An Assam police team is leaving West Bengal to seek the remand of Sudipta Sen a day after the Saradha Group chief was brought to Kolkata.According to sources, the team would interrogate Sen in connection with the chit-fund scam. He said three staff-members of Saradha Group were arrested in 2012 in connection with a cheating case in Jorhat.So far, 222 cases have been registered against 128 chit fund companies in the State. A Special Investigation Team probing the cases has so far filed charge sheets against 42 persons and 15 companies in 17 cases. So far, 303 persons have been arrested. Guwahati: Journalist Forum Assam (JFA) has expressed serious concern at the closer notices issued by the management of two Assam based daily newspapers and urged Assam government to take initiative for possible re-launching both the newspapers owned by the Kolkata based by Saradha Group. The forum also asked the management to release the outstanding salaries to the journalist and non-journalist employees at the earliest. Security forces claimed to have killed a hardcore ULFA militant at an encounter in Tinsukia on Friday. Identified as Raktavij Asom he was killed early in the morning. The encounter took place during a combing operation launched at Kordoiguri on Thursday evening. A police sub inspector also was killed in the encounter. Another ULFA leader is hiding at a house. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi strongly came in defence of Zubeen Garg after ULFA slammed the popular singer for not adhering to the diktat on Hindi performance in bihu functions. Talking to reporters in Bokakhat on Thursday Gogoi said that ULFA diktat has no basis and that all artists are free to perform in any language. Gogoi further said that if asked for the government is ready to provide him security force.
Braving ULFA diktat Zubeen Garg peformed in Hindi in the bihu function in Guwahati. The popular singer sang in Hindi one after another songs at two functions on Thursday evening.
