181 helpline for women

Dispur is prepared to operationalise 181 helpline exclusively for women in distress.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi writes to Chief Secretary PP Verma asking him to instruct the state Home and Political Department to work out an action plan to operationalise the 181 helpline facility for women as it was in other states like Delhi.

Gogoi directed that the helpline be operationalised in consultation with the Assam Police, Health and Family Welfare, Assam State Disaster Management Authority and other line departments. At least 10 districts are reeling under flood water. The worst-hit are river island Majuli and the Kaziranga National Park. Rising water of the Brahmaputra has inundated vast tracts of land in Kaziranga's Burapahar, Bagori and northern parts of Agratoli with three animal casualty reported. Two deer were knocked down by speeding vehicles in Harmoti area when they were on way to the highlands, while an elephant drowned in the flood waters in Bagori range.
Three foreign tourists have been injured as their vehicles overturned in Kamrup district Monday.They were on their way to Siliguri en route to Sikkim when their vehicle turned turtle at Ghakuchi.Identified as Andrew John, Stephen Doneur and Sarit Jay Patel -- were injured in the incident with John being in a critical condition while the two others received minor injuries. Two poachers were apprehended by police in Golaghat district on Monday.Acting on a tip-off, the police launched a search operation in Balijan Adarsh Mising village under Bokakhat police station and arrested the two from their residence.Police recovered a Chinese made M-22 rifle with seven rounds of ammunitions and a .303 rifle with six cartridges from the poachers who have been identified as Zila Doley and Bhaiti Pegu.The duo llegedly involved in the recent killings of a rhino and removal of its horns in Kaziranga National Park were apprehended by police in Golaghat district.

Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) has extended its moral support to the agitating media poisons of Manipur on its struggle against the militants.
