Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Preparations are complete to ensure smooth conduct of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election on Wednesday.There will be 15 zonal magistrates and 72 sector officers monitoring the situation across the city in order to maintain law and order during the election. The strong room and counting hall at Sarusajai stadium in Guwahati will be under surveillance of CCTV camera.
Rana Goswami and Bhupen Bora have resigned as parliamentary secretaries a day after their appointment as AICC secretaries in deference to the party’s one-man-one-post policy. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi accepted their resignations this evening.
Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma seeks public apology for the incident at the Mangaldoi civil hospital where four persons tested positive for HIV after they underwent blood transfusion. Sarma said that the Mangaldoi incident was very unfortunate and he had deep regret for it.

PP Varma will be new chief secretary. “Today I am making it public. He will take charge after Das retires on the last day of this month," Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters in Guwahati Varma, a 1978 batch IAS officer, is currently the Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Social Welfare and Public Health Engineering Departments. The incumbent Naba Kumar Das, a 1976 batch IAS officer, will retire on June 30.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi dropped hint of contesting again in the 2016 assembly elections.Talking to reporters in Dispur on Saturday, Gogoi sent out a strong signal to the dissidents that he will contest for the top post. He said claimed that he has full support from the party high command.He further called dissidence is a small issue.
