Eight Bangladeshi Nationals namely Md Nurnabi (14 yrs) P.S- Nageswari, Kurigram (BD), Ali Rabbani (15 yrs) P.S- Nageswari, Kurigram (BD) and Azab Ali (80) of Fulbari, Kurigram (BD) with his entire family comprising of his wife, 01 daughter and 03 sons from the border area of Seoti under Dinhata police station (WB) at about 0100 hrs today. It is learnt from the preliminary questioning that they had illegally entered into Indian Territory and had been working in a brick kiln at Sonepat (Haryana) for last one year. But as the kiln have shut down due to rains, they (BD nationals) planned to return to Bangladesh with the help of an Indian tout namely Hafiz Ali of Dinhata who himself had accompanied them from Haryana in lieu Rs. 3000/- INR/- per head. Accordingly, they were in the process of crossing the International Border to Bangladesh while they were apprehended by BSF troops of Guwahati Frontier. Later, the apprehended Bangladeshis were handed over to the local Police for further legal action.
Naam-Phai Village, Tinsukia | April 22, 2026: A round table meeting was held today among several indigenous organizations at Naam-Phai village under Margherita Sub-division of Tinsukia district to discuss the protection of land rights for indigenous Assamese communities residing in the Tirap Tribal Belt and Block.
The meeting brought together members of the Indigenous Peoples of Moung-Dun-Chun-Kham (Assam, North East India), All Man-Tai Speaking Students’ Union, Tirap Autonomous District Council Demand Committee, and the Tirap Mouza Indigenous Tai-Ahom Land Rights Protection Committee.
