World Environment Day observed by KVK Goalpara W

World Environment Day was observed Madang village in Dhanubhanga, Goalpara by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Goalpara with active participation of the farmers of the village. The day long programme consisted of a training on “Soil and Water Conservation”, a discussion on “World Environment Day”, a procession from the village to the crop field and finally ended with planting of 160 trees in the farmers field along the Deosila River.

At the beginning of the session, Er. Benjamin Kaman discussed various aspects of soil and water conservation. He also discussed on maintaining ecological balance and need of the trees in the crop fields for supporting various birds which feed on insects. Dr. Hitu Choudhury, incharge Programme Coordinator and Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science) elaborated the importance of World Environment Day and the role of environment for all round development and maintaining good health. Mr. Biswajit Dey, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture) discussed on effects of trees on microclimate for maintaining productivity of horticultural crops. Mr. Jagadish Ray, an ATMA member and social worker was also present on the occasion and appraised the farmers on environment.

The attending farmers and the officials of Krishi Vigyan Kendra took out procession and walked from village to the crop field on the bank of the river Deosila with the saplings in hand. The saplings were collected from the nearby jungle and the Social Forestry, Dudhnoi. The peoples gathered for the occasion transplanted 160 saplings along the Deosila River. The farmers of all ages were very enthusiastic and happy since it was the first ever such plantation activity organized in the village.
