An Assam police team is leaving West Bengal to seek the remand of Sudipta Sen a day after the Saradha Group chief was brought to Kolkata.
According to sources, the team would interrogate Sen in connection with the chit-fund scam. He said three staff-members of Saradha Group were arrested in 2012 in connection with a cheating case in Jorhat.
So far, 222 cases have been registered against 128 chit fund companies in the State. A Special Investigation Team probing the cases has so far filed charge sheets against 42 persons and 15 companies in 17 cases. So far, 303 persons have been arrested. Nearly Rs. 94 lakh in cash has been seized and amount of Rs. 24 crore frozen. Police have seized 106 bank accounts have been frozen while steps are being taken for the attachment of a number of landed properties including 99 bighas of land and buildings which have been identified.
The companies now under scanner are Saradha Group, Rose Valley, Unipay 2U, Jeevan Suraksha, Prayag, Abyss Assam Group Co, Basil International Ltd., Alliance Vision Marketing Pvt. Ltd and Daffodils Group of Companies.
The ministerial group set up to study the formation of new districts and sub division discussed the entire subject at a meeting in Dispur on Friday.The meeting thoroughly discussed the proposals for creation of ten new districts and 46 sub divisions in the state.
A hostage managed to escape from the NDFB-S camp in Bhutan 19 days after he was kidnapped from Kokrajhar.According to information, the local resident of Lilabari in Lakhimpur was kidnapped on February 5 when he was on a visit to Kokrajhar with one of him friend.After holding him hostage, the Bodo militant outfit demanded Rs 1 crore for his release. A full grown leopard was captured in Guwahati after it unleashed a reign of terror in Kahilipara for the last couple of days.The leopard was captured at a cage in Kahilipara as it tried to get a goat put inside it on Thursday night. Central customs department has seized a consignment of red senders from a truck in Guwahati on Tuesday.Acting on a tip off, customs officials conducted a search operation at a truck in Nineth Mile area in the afternoon where senders almost weighing by 8 tonnes worth Rs 1.5 crore were recovered which was concealed by potato and fruits.The smuggled red senders were believed to have been brought towards China.
