Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.

the govt should inform all the trade bodies what products are banned or what not banned to save the petty traders from the meaningless harassment from the govt officers and so called many organisations. the sale of smoking items should also be banned in the state.

9 injured in ULFA attack

Atleast nine persons including four journalists sustained injury when ULFA exploded a powerful grenade in Mongoldoi on Thursday. The incident took place at the police station campus at 6.30 in the evening. Eyewitnesses told assamtimes that two motorcycle born youths lobbed the IED from the national highway to the campus targetting a function. The explosion took place with a huge sound leaving 9 people injured. They include 2 policemen and 4 journalists who were covering the function.The injured have been rushed to the hospital. Hours after the attack, the insurgent outfit owned up the responsibilty of the incident.

Poachers strike KNP

Poachers strike again in Kaziranga. Two one-horned rhinos were killed and chopped off their horns in the National Park on Wednesday.Poachers were learnt to have killed the rhinos near the NH-37----200 meters away from Dirang forest camp under Burapahar range office in the park.According to KNP officials, the incident took place at around 3.20 am nearby the NH-37. Grenade blasts mar I-Day

Two powerful grenade explosions marred Independance day celebrations in Kokrajhar on Thursday. The fist blast took place at JV Road at 10.30 in the morning where one person sustained. Identified as Bipul Brahma, he was rushed to the hospital. Another bomb exploded in front of BPF head office.
