Anti-tobacco bill soon

Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.

the govt should inform all the trade bodies what products are banned or what not banned to save the petty traders from the meaningless harassment from the govt officers and so called many organisations. the sale of smoking items should also be banned in the state.

Akhil detained in Titabor

KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi courted arrest when he was leading a massive protest in front of Titabor SDO office alleging a crore rupee scam in the water supply scheme in the area on Monday.Policemen on duty tried to disperse Gogoi and his protestors by blank firing and lobbing tear gas shell where at least ten protestors have been injured. Later Gogoi was detained by police.   

Tackling horse trading

15 kidnapped in Sonitpur

Sonitpur district bordering Arunachal Pradesh is still on the boil. Unidentified miscreants forcibly took away 15 girls and women on Monday morning hardly a week 12 villagers were killed in Chauldhuwa.According to information, miscreants kidnapped these Adivashi and Karbi girls and women at gunpoint from Nomara area while they were working at a stone quarry.Later the miscreants passed the information to the gaonburah and called him to hold a discussion on the issue. CLP meet on Wednesday

The Assam Congress legislative party will meet on Wednesday to discuss the Rajya Sabha polls slated for Friday.The CLP has invited its alliance BPF legislators to attend the meeting at the Assam Assembly. Congress has two candidates namely Bhuneswar kalita and Dr Sanjay Singh while it backed BPF candidate Biswajeet Daimary.With the support of three independent candidates, Congress needs two other crucial votes to get the three candidates elected to the Upper House.

Mesmerizing procession

Dressed in traditional attire, thousands of people in Guwahati took a huge cultural procession in the city on the last day of the Asom Sahitya Sabha’s special session on Monday.Led by Sabha president Imran Shah, the 7km long colourful procession took off from the Rudra Singha Sports Complex and covered the entire city mesmerizing the Guwahatians in the morning.Students from the various schools and colleges were also seen participating in the procession much to the delight of the Sahitya Sabha officials.
