Though there have been repeated changes in the target period of the completion of the Lumding – Silchar BG conversion by the N F Railway assigning various pleas like difficult terrain, soil condition etc. but the conscious people of Dima Hasao opined that if the N F Railway maintains the present trend of work and zeal, the N F Railway can easily start the running of train in-between Lumding and New Haflong within last part of 2013.
It is learnt that, from Lumding to Daotuhaja major works like tunnels and bridges including laying of tracks have been almost completed. The station buildings at various new stations are also been completed. Sources in Railway, on request of anonymity, disclosed that there has been some conspiracies by some unscrupulous agents or agencies to delay in the completion of the much publicised B G conversion otherwise, the railway is quite able to run trains in between Lumding – New Haflong within last part of 2013 provided the Tunnel No 7 located near Mahur is completed. The completion of Tunnel No 7 again depends on the Supervising officials who with little bit of dedication can mobilise the executing construction companies engaged there instead of leaving the works at the whims of company. Some say the existing M G was constructed during the British period with dedication, proper zeal and even sacrifice of lives. They did this project at a time when there were nothing in the name of construction materials, machineries and man power but they completed within a stipulated period of 15 years (?) but the present N F Railway utterly failed to convert the existing M G within the stipulated and repeatedly changing the target dates which has put a big question. It is also fact the Railway was bound to convert the M G to BG since entire railway network in the country was BG, no matter how much time it takes.
Sri Ashok Langthasa, a prominent social activist of Maibang talking to this correspondent, said he could not understand as to why the N F Railway repeatedly changing the target date of the completion of B G conversion which literally disturb in maintaining the name and fame of the Railway. Earlier, N F Railway was considered to be an expert agency in the field of railway construction. Langthasa further observed that the officials those who are in charge of supervision are not taking the job to retain the name and fame of Railway rather they some how passing days as routine work. There fore he requests the railway authority to encourage the officials working hard for the project with proper reorganisation or rewards.
