2 GNLA militants killed

Two hardcore GNLA militants were killed at an encounter with security police in Goalpara distirct on Thursday. The encounter took place at an interior area along the Assam-Meghalaya interstate border where the army and police launched a combing operation in the wee hours. Police further recovered 2 pistols from their possession.

Police constable Abhijit Baruah once again makes Assam proud when set new record of hitting the highest number of punches in a minute on the boxing pad on Thursday.The 23-year-old cop hit 387 punches in Delhi to break the record he himself set a couple of moths ago in Jorhat. The attempt was made at the Assam Bhawan in the national capital in presence of observers from the Asian Book of Records. The Centre has raised the margin money for khadi and village industries from Rs 66 cr to Rs 100 cr for the next financial year 2013-2014.This was confirmed by none other than Union Minister of State for MSME (Independent) KH Muniyappa in Guwahati.  He said that the decision was taken at a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and senior officials . Renowned vaishnavite veteran Sonaram Chutia passed away after a brief ailment on Wednesday. Chutia died at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital at 9.15 in the evening. He was 98 and was accorded with cabinet rank 3 years back. Born on June 8 in 1915, Chutia cleared his graduation in science from Cotton College. Karimganj police on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a youth for torturing a five-year-old girl. The five-year-old girl, who went missing on January 28 evening, was found lying in a paddy field with severe injuries near her house at Pinnagar village on January 29. Her father alleged that she was raped by the youth, who was arrested by the police on the basis of the allegation.
