Udalguri celebrates 64th R-Day

The 64th Republic Day celebrated at Udalguri with gaiety. At the Parade Ground of DC’s Office, Udalguri. Thaneswar Malakar,Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri offered floral tribute to the Father of the Nation “Mahatma Gandhi” at Gandhi Smriti at 8-45 AM, before inspection of guard of honour. Several contingents including police,para military forces and students took part in the march past. The DC hoisted the tri-colour at 9.00 AM in presence of the around five thousand people. On the occasion DC Malakar gratefully mentioned sacrifices of all known or unknown heroes of India's freedom struggle. He also spoke on the development that had been implemented in the district. DC also thanked people of Udalguri for maintaining peace while the whole BTAD was burning. Distinguished guests namely- Col.DK Bose, C.O. Mighty Fine Regiment of Red Horns Division; Debajit Deori, Superintendent of Police,Udalguri and Kulen Talukdar,ADC,Udalguri etc attended the R Day flag hoisting ceremony. Udalguri district administration felicitated Sahitya Academy award winner Kamal Kumar Tanti.

District Level Award for Excellence in Public Service was awarded to Nareswar Deka of Udalguri. District Level award for Excellence in Public Administration was awarded Dr.Naram Kachari,DVO,Udalguri while District Level award for Excellence in Public Security was awarded jointly to Amitav Sensowa,Officer-In Charge of Rowta Police Station and Purnima Das (woman constable of Orang Police Station.It needs mention that constable Purnima Das herself captured a militant armed with AK-47. She pumped several rounds of bullets from her AK-47 to disarm the extremist group last year. Pankaj Sarma a student of Orang HS School was awarded District Level Excellence Award as the best child scientist. The student attended National Children's Science Congress meet 2012 held in Banaras Hindu university from December 27 to 31 in 2012 as a member of Assam child scientist team.

Attractive science based models were displayed by child scientists of various schools from Tangla,Kalaigaon,Udalguri beside stalls of different government departments and SHGs. Fruits were also distributed amongst the patients of ‘200 beds Civil Hospital’ at Udalguri in connection with the celebration of Independence Day. Spectacular cultural items were performed by students and youths of the district.

AT KALAIGAON: At Kalaigaon,Dina Moni Das,Circle Officer,Kalaigaon Revenue Circle hoisted the national flag at Gandhi Bakori field, Kalaigaon in presence of thousands of people. The Circle Officer paid floral tribute to thousands who had sacrificed their lived for Mother India. Cultural events were also arranged on the occasion by boys and girls. At Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Kalaigaon campus, Madhab Sarma,Principal, JNV, Kalaigaon hoisted the tricolour. Spectacular cultural items were presented by students of the school. A friendly cricket match between SBI Mangaldai branch and JNV Darrang was also played in the afternoon.

At Tangla: At commercial town Tangla,DN Hazarika,Circle Officer,Harisinga Revenue Circle hoisted the national flag at Tangla HS School play ground in the presence of nearly five thousand people. 23 contingents of NCC and schools took part in march paste event. Speaking on the occasion DN Hazarika requested people to remember the supreme sacrifice of those who had sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country. Six persons including- Dr.Kailash Chamua,(veterinary);Ratneswar Sarma (progressive farmer); Gyanen Chaliha (culture); Sarbeswar Das (gaonburah); Krishna Bahadur Giri (VDP)were felicitated for their respective contribution in various fields. Pritimoni Talukdar,who topped the Hindi (Visharad) examination among NE students was also felicitated. 12 cultural groups of Tangla performed a few excellent cultural items to much delight of the people present. In the march paste Axylium Covent,UN Academy and MVM,Tangla won first three places respectively. Santias Kunjur, EM,BTC among others attended the ceremony.

One Surya Gauria (45) has been trampled by a loner wild tusker at Dangalbasti near No.2 Ghagra (Hatigarh) on today afternoon at 4 pm while trying to chase away the wild tusker. Child scientists of Kalaigaon block have won five out of six awards in the district level science based competition held at Udalguri HSS on May 29. The competition was organized by Udalguri district administration under the aegis of Assam Science Technology & Environment Council (ASTEC). One Pramod Kumar Singh jawan of BOP (Border Out Post),SSB, Nalapara in Udalguri district has been killed by wild elephants at 10 am today at Nalapara,under Harisinga police station. He along with others were on patrolling duty while attacked by a wild elephant.He died on the spot. He is an inhabitant of Katihar (Bihar) and had joined SSB in 2007.
