Assam Rifles Commander visits Assam-Manipur border

To assess the general security situation in these far flung and remote villages of Dima Hasao District, Brig  Gajinder Singh, Commander of Haflong based Assam Rifles Sector Headquarters at made a visit to the villages of Laisong, Hengrum and Baladhan along the Assam and Manipur border. During the visit  Commander interacted with the villagers and Gaon Buras discussing the security matters of the areas.  The villagers thanked the security forces for looking after their security concerns and appreciated that they have not been asked any taxes or extortion in the recent past.  They also praised the security forces in their effort to bring peace and development along the border areas

To further build the bridge between the locals of the Sub Division & the Assam Rifles  Jiribam based Assam Rifles Unit organized a meeting with local community members of Jiribam, representatives of Meira Paibis and the local press. The meet was attended by Commander of the Haflong based Assam Rifles Sector Headquarters. Commander of the Assam Rifles Sector Headquarters came to Jiribam & interacted with the locals. He interacted with representatives of the Meira Phabis, Gaon Buras of villages & local organizations. while interacting with locals assured them of full support of the Assam Rifles, a force with large number of troops from North Eastern States. It was decided that the local community, media, police and civil administration and Assam Rifles would work with coordination for upliftment and safety of all residents of the region. Any differences existing would be amicably resolved by all stake holders.

Assam Rifles Unit deployed in Jiribam has been successful in improving the internal security situation in the region specially for creating a secure environment in Jiribam Sub Division and for security of the important road link NH37 for facilitating connectivity between Assam and Manipur. The troops have been in the forefront in carrying out various civic action projects to meet the aspirations of the local populace. Troops have also provided solace to locals during times of natural calamity & need.             

The meeting was appreciated by the locals who assured their full support to      Assam Rifles in combating insurgents for bringing peace in Jiribam. The Assam Rifles officials thanked the local community members for their support and guidance and emphasized that troops would continue to carry out people friendly operations along with other security forces stated a press release issued by the Assam Rifles on January 24th.

Strong resentment was expressed by the Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) over the army atrocities on its cadres those are staying at their respective designated camps at Maibang, Jatinga, Kapurcherra and Haflong communicating office on July 10. The 100 hours bandh from tomorrow 4 am by the North Cachar Hills Indigenous Students Forum (NCHISF) has been withdrawn following assurance from the government for second round of talks on July 21.
