Every year the Education Research and Development Foundation (ERDF) honors eminent personalities of the state in recognition of their contribution in different fields to mark the advent of New Year. This year ERDF selected some senior citizens of the state to wish good health and long life so that they can continue their service to the society.
The 2013 edition of the felicitation programme was held at the Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) for ten senior citizens. The function began with welcome address of the dignitaries to the Dais by N I Laskar, Director, Corporate Communication ERDF. Dr H K Baruah, Director (Academics), ERDF welcomed the guests. Felicitation of guests began with Nirupama Borgohain, Abdul Mazeed, Prof. Md. Taher, Abdul Malik , H N Das, Abdul Khaleque Mazumder, B K Nath, D N Barua, Hareswar Das and D N Singh.

Nirupama Borgohain released two books, namely, ‘Janmadin’ authored by Dr Dinesh Baishya and ‘Paloiya-Pathar’ by Devajit Saikia. Later on the dignitaries expressed their views and the functions concluded after vote of thanks by N I Laskar.
The Education Research and Development Foundation is the largest institutional network in the Northeastern region catering education from KG to PG by running two CBSE affiliated schools, two professional colleges viz. Central IT College and Regional College of Higher Education, one engineering college Regional Institute of Science & Technology and one University, the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya.

A bike expedition under the slogan of 'Be Indian, Be United, Be in Peace', flagged off from Tuipang of Mizoram for 'India's East to West Green Belt Bike Expedition 2011 passed the state recently. The expedition organised by Sky High Adventures Club of Rajkot in Gujarat, arrived at Dhupdhara in Goalpara District on November 1 and it left for Siliguri after a brief halt. Noted stage actor Kamala Rabha passed away after a prolonged illness at his own residence at Sakhati in Kamrup district on Friday, November 4. He was 65. His death was deeply condoled by various organisations and persons in Kamrup and Goalpara district. Born in 1946, he started his acting career in local drama groups. And later he joined several leading theatre groups of the state and involved for three decades. As an actor he first joined the Theater Bhagyadevi and then Kohinoor Theater, Meghali Theater, Anuradha Theater, Aashirwad Theater and many more. A senior police officer had a narrow escape at a shoot out in Sivasagar on Friday. But his body guard sustained bullet injured in the incident.
The incident took place near Barhat where three motorcycle born ULFA men started indiscriminate firing on a sub divisional police officer at around 7 in the evening. ULFA’s anti-talk faction threatens to launch massive strike Assam. In an email statement sent to www.assamtimes.org ULFA’s publicity wing manager Arunodoy Dohotia said urged the common people to avoid the police stations and the security forces. Nearly 20% journalists were detected with high sugar and blood pressure during a health check up camp organized by GNRC Hospitals at Guwahati Press Club today (Oct 29,2011). Over 100 member-journalists and other individuals participated in the camp which was inaugurated by eminent actor Pranjal Saikia. ULFA’s Paresh Baruah faction once again makes its strong presence felt in Dibrugarh district on Friday killing a surrendered militant. The anti-talk faction of the outfit shot dead one of their former colleague Tileswar Lahon at sensational shoot out in the evening. The incident took place at Moran where four unidentified youths born in motorcycle shot dead Lahon from a point blank range near his residence near Moran.
