Every year the Education Research and Development Foundation (ERDF) honors eminent personalities of the state in recognition of their contribution in different fields to mark the advent of New Year. This year ERDF selected some senior citizens of the state to wish good health and long life so that they can continue their service to the society.
The 2013 edition of the felicitation programme was held at the Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) for ten senior citizens. The function began with welcome address of the dignitaries to the Dais by N I Laskar, Director, Corporate Communication ERDF. Dr H K Baruah, Director (Academics), ERDF welcomed the guests. Felicitation of guests began with Nirupama Borgohain, Abdul Mazeed, Prof. Md. Taher, Abdul Malik , H N Das, Abdul Khaleque Mazumder, B K Nath, D N Barua, Hareswar Das and D N Singh.

Nirupama Borgohain released two books, namely, ‘Janmadin’ authored by Dr Dinesh Baishya and ‘Paloiya-Pathar’ by Devajit Saikia. Later on the dignitaries expressed their views and the functions concluded after vote of thanks by N I Laskar.
The Education Research and Development Foundation is the largest institutional network in the Northeastern region catering education from KG to PG by running two CBSE affiliated schools, two professional colleges viz. Central IT College and Regional College of Higher Education, one engineering college Regional Institute of Science & Technology and one University, the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya.

The toll in the venomous spider attack has gone to two in Assam where around 12 people are still undergoing treatment. The victims often complain of painful swelling. Both the victims hailed from Tinsukia district. But there is no confirmation. According to the district administration, the victims were cremated before autopsies could be done. A tragic incident erupted in the GMCH premises on Sunday following the tragic death of a baby. One person was killed and four others were injured in a road mishap in Goalpara district on Sunday morning.The tragic incident struck at Dhanubhanga area near Dudhnoi when a passenger bus hit a Tata Indica car . One died on the spot and four other occupants of the car were injured. He was identified as Binoy Kumar Prasad. The injured were rushed to the hospital.

Unidentified miscreants snatched a gold chain from an aged woman who happens to be the mother Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Kahilipara on Sunday. According to police, the incident took place when Mrinalini Devi, was on her way for morning walk at around 7 am when two miscreants in a bike stopped near her. Police in Guwahati arrested six people linked to Garo National Liberation Army on Saturday and seized huge ache of arms and ammunition from their possession. The consignment, including rocket launchers, shells and pistols and barrets were found from Gorchuk area of Guwahati. The consignment was intercepted on its way to GNLA camps in Garo Hills in Meghalaya through Goalpara in Assam.
Normal life remained totally paralysed amid sporadic incidents of violence during the 12-hour bandh called by Karbi Students' Youth Council in Karbi Anglong district on Saturday. Bandh supporters set on fire a truck carrying oil in drums in the Diphu-Lumding road this afternoon after forcing the driver and handyman to get down. Shops and business establishments remained closed and vehicular traffic was minimal. KSYC gave the bandh call in protest against alleged encroachment by Meghalaya.
