Amzad Ali Khan to perform at Guwahati

In what could be termed as a mega cultural event, internationally acclaimed Sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan will be performing in the city for the first time. The Sarod maestro will be accompanied by his two sons – Amaan Ali Khan and Ayaan Ali Khan, who have both nurtured out to be prodigies in themselves.

This was informed by North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) Director Som Kamei in a crowded press conference in their cultural amphitheatre Shilpgram here today. Assam Governnor JB Patnaik will be the Chief Guest and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will be the Guest of Honour in the event. NEZCC Chairman Nikhil Kumar, who is also the Governor of Nagaland, will be the Chief Host of the event.

Som Kamei said, “We have had folk performances across many interior areas of the region – from Lunglei in Mizoram to Khowai in Tripura and Pasighat in Arunachal as part of the silver jubilee celebrations. But since Guwahati is the most vibrant cultural city of the Northeast, we felt that the celebrations here have to feature an international celebrity. And who else is more qualified than Ustad Amjad Ali Khan?”

The event has been aptly titled Peace and Harmony concert. It will be held at Pragjyoti ITA Centre for Performing Arts on October 27, 2012. Entry passes can be collected from the Shilpgram office in the city within the next few days.
