Secretary of the Green Guard Nature Organization, Rituraj Phukan is all set for the International Antarctic Expedition. Scheduled for the 28th of February 2013, the 14 day expedition will be lead by Robert Swan- the first man to walk to both the North Pole and the South Pole and recipient of the OBE honor from Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and the 2041 team.
In recent years, global warming and climate change due to unplanned human development activities has emerged as a major threat to the two polar areas of the globe. Rising temperatures and change in climatic conditions has adversely effected global biodiversity and threatened the existence of innumerable species of plant & animal life on all the seven continents. 2041 was founded by Robert Swan, who has dedicated his life to the preservation of Antarctica by the promotion of recycling, renewable energy and sustainability to combat the effects of climate change. 2041’s mission is to build on Swan’s dedication by informing, engaging and inspiring the next generation of leaders to take responsibility, to be sustainable, and to know that now is the time for action in policy development, business generation and future technologies.
Currently there is a moratorium in place that bans drilling or mining in Antarctica called the Environmental Protocol, or Madrid Protocol, established signed by almost all the nations on earth in 1991. This document can be reviewed after the 50-year anniversary in 2041. As the year 2041 quickly approaches, Robert’s goal is to ensure that the young people of today make informed and sustainable decisions for tomorrow.
Since 2003, Robert Swan and 2041 has taken along selected people from the corporate, academic & environment fields to Antarctica, to gain firsthand knowledge of the continent’s fragile ecosystem, experience its unique wildlife, the effect of global warming and climate change and how they can be countered by promotion of recycling, renewable energy & sustainability.

It is indeed a proud moment for the people of Assam & Northeast India, particularly those associated with the 'green movement'. I hope Mr. Rituraj Phukan will find the support of the business, political & media houses, to sponsor the expenses and that he will return to share his experiences with the people of Assam & others.

The recent blast that rocked Tezpur town killing one person was engineered by ANLA. This was confirmed by the police saying the ANLA cadres have planted the bomb at the bicycle. Noted litterateur and Sahitya Akademy ward winning writer Reboti Mohan Dutta Chaudhory passed away on Friday night at a city hospital. For the 87 year writer of the Madhupur ArunTaangini, the end came at around 8-30 in the evening. Popularly known as Shilabhadra, Dutta Chaudhory was admitted in the hospital two weeks back in view of his old age ailment. He was born in 1924 in Gauripur in Dhubri district. The All Assam Students Union has demanded a CBI enquiry into the rhino poachings at the Kaziranga National Park and alleged that the poachers are backed by a section of forest officials and also by some ministers and MLAs.Addressing a press conference in the city, AASU General secretary tapan Kumar Gogoi said that the failure to check the rhino poachings is proves that a section of forest officials backed some ministers and MLAs have been aiding and abetting the poachers. The city police picked up two people and seized a huge quantity of explosive materials while it was running an operation in Patharkunwari area on Tuesday midnight. According to information, the city police firstly rounded up up one Binod Thapa with an electrical detonator and some explosive materials. Binod led the police to the house of one Haramohan Barman and recovered 14 such electrical detonators and 50 detonator in addition to 4 gelatin sticks and four kilogram explosive materials. The police suspect that both the people have help ULFA. The police have some inputs that ULFA cadre Champak Sarma, who was recent arrested from the city received explosive materials from him.
One died and as many as fourteen people have been injured when suspected ULFA militants exploded a powerful bomb on Wednesday in Tezpur town forcing a spontaneous bandh of the town from afternoon. According to information, the bomb was planted at a bicycle in front of Borgola, at 100 km away from the Tezpur Police Station.
