HSLC/AHM exams

The HSLC/AHM (Regular/Private) examination, 2008 and compartmental examination 2007 will begin from February 15. The theory papers will get over on March 5. The practical examination will be conducted at the selected centres/venues, informed the Board of Secondary Education, Assam.

RComm to provide CDMA service in Northeast

The Reliance Communications has received government nod to provide CDMA services under the existing Unified Access Service Licences in the entire north eastern region. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has granted in-principle permission to its subsidiary Reliance Telecom in this regard, RComm said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange. The RTL would offer CDMA services also in addition to its existing GSM services in Assam and Northeast service areas.

Police recover PTD in Rongiya

The Rongiya police saved the people from a major tragedy while they recovered a powerful Programmed Timed device from near a hotel on the National Highway on Tuesday evening. The bomb was recovered from a Guwahati-bound bus which was concealed under a seat. Investigation is going on and police have picked up seven persons in this regard.

Black Widow kills 1 more in Haflong

The face of violence atop the North Cachar hills refuses to die down. The Black Widow militants have killed one more people after he was kidnapped from Haflong town on Sunday. According to information, Gopesh Langthasa, an Airtel distributor after kidnapping from the Haflong town on Sunday. Shooting champs in Guwahati from Feb 16

ASDC rushes delegation to Delhi

The ASDC has rushed an eight member delegation to New Delhi on Tuesday to reiterate the demand for an autonomous state covering both North Cachar and Karbi Anglong districts. The demand came up in 1986 but the Centre has been maintaining silence. Now they hope the demand this time will be effective in view of the preparation for formation of the second state reorganization panel. The delegation will call on home minister Shivraj Patil and Opposition leader L K Advani.

Poaching: 1 more rhino killed in Kaziranga

Again poaching has rocked the Kaziranga National Park on Monday night. The body of the rhino was spotted at the Bagori range on Tuesday morning. The poachers took away the horn after killing the rhino with 303 rifles. The incident took place hardly 24 hours after forest minister Rockybul Hussain suggested a slew of measures to stop poaching in the state’s sanctuaries. The park authority restricted the entry of media people who rushed to the sport when the message was spreading like wildfire. This is the fifth rhino to be poached this year itself.
