Health and education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that high level probe would be ordered to ascertain the reasons behind the mysterious death of Madhurjya Barukiyal who was found floating in a pond inside the college campus on Friday.
According to AEC authority, Madhurjya, who hailed from Kamargaon in Golaghat, had gone to bath in the pond after playing a game of football on Friday evening. His body was later recovered from the pond. His body was sent for postmortem at the Guwahati Medical College and later taken to his hometown.
Family members of the boy claimed that it was a case of ragging and demanded a proper investigation into the incident.

BTAD chief Hagrama Mohilary alleges involvement of third force in the communal flare-up in Udalguri and Darrang district of lower Assam. Talking to a private news channel, Mohilary said the authorities compensate Rs 1 lakh ex–gratia amount each to the families of those killed in the communal flare-up. He further said those rendered homeless would be rehabilitated. Mohilary has confirmed that the authorities will ensure relief materials for the affected people in the camps.Citing the use of arms and ammunition, Mohilary said the involvement of rebel groups like NDFB backed by Bodo peace forum cannot be denied.

Three ULFA cadres have been killed in an encounter with army in Tihu in Nalbari district on Friday night. According to information, the incident took place at Khetrapara Ghairajan under Tinhu police station when army’s Kumaon regiment with the help of police launched an operation in the area resulting in the heavy exchange of firing. Three ULFA cadres died on the spot and they have yet to be identified.Later police found a carbine, six rounds of bullets, one 9 mm pistol with five rounds of cartidge, a grenade, six detonators and some gunpowder from the spot.
