Decks clear for new IIIT for Assam

The Centre has approved proposals to set up IIIT in Assam along with Tripura. These new Indian Institutes of Information Technology would be set up under the not-for-profit public-private partnership (N-PPP) mode.
According to official sources, 11 State Governments have identified land and are in the process of identifying the industry partners. It is expected that another three States may also be sanctioned an IIIT each shortly under the scheme.

Mmajor objective in establishing IIITs is to set up a model of education which can produce best-in-class human resources in IT and harnessing the multi-dimensional facets of IT in various domains. These institutions are conceived as self-sustaining, research-led institutions contributing significantly to the global competitiveness of key sectors of the Indian economy and industry with application of IT in selected domain areas.

Let us pray that it is set up at Mirza as decided earlier. Guwahati is the only perfect place where an institute of such repute could be set up. Besides, Brahmaputra valley doesn't have any institute apart from IIT-G worth the name. Having graduated from NIT-Silchar, i can very well understand the maladies that ail the place. Let the Almighty show the correct path to our politicians and give them foresight. Let the Assamese politicians and the larger intelligentsia of the Assamese society understand the gravity of the matter and take wise decisions! Such institutes if started in the Assamese heartland would produce intellectuals who might in the future lead Assam to its glory. In the long run these small things matter.

Truely speaking, the proposed IIIT must be set up in and around Dibrugarh city.Because both Ghy and Silchar have two technological institutes viz.,IIT and NIT.As Dbrg is the second largest and important city of assam,so it must get institutions for higher education like IIIT.Dbrg district is full of natural resources like oil, coal, tea, timber, etc.Besides,Dbrg district is one of the most revenue earning districts of India and it is well connected with all the modes of transport viz.,rail, air and road. So,all the people of Assam should urge the central as well as the state govt. to set up the IT institution in Dibrugarh city.

We strongly wish that the proposed IIIT should be set up either in Lakhimpur or Dhemaji district. Because this two districts lack in getting any governmental institute of high repute. And people of these two districts deserves such an institute.
