The Board of Secondary Education, Assam on Friday announced the results of the HSLC and AHM examination it conducted in February-March. Gyandeep Sarma from Shankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan in Bokakhat, Bhaswati Deka from St. Mary’s English High School in Maligaon and Stuty Khound from Shankardev Sishu Vidya Niketan in Biswanath Chariali topped HSLC examination this time leaving many reputed schools red-faced.


The percentage of successful candidates this year is 69.63 where altogether 2,78, 704 candidates appeared. Altogether 1,94,067 candidates have cleared the HSLC examination out of whom 26,203 have been ranked in first division and 68,180 candidates have secured second division. The first fourth rank holders are Gyandeep Sarma from Shankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan in Bokakhat, Bhaswati Deka from St. Mary’s English High School in Maligaon and Stuty Khound from Shankardev Sishu Vidya Niketan in Biswanath Chariali. Shahinoor Rahman from Bijni Bandhab HS School, Parijat Priyadarshin from St Josephs Convent High School in Tezpur ranked second top position. Priyanka Bezbaruah from Udayan Santi Niketan in Bezera is smiling with third top position while the fourth position goes to Neha Sharma from Holy Child School in Guwahati with Priyanka Medhi from Lokpriya GNB High School in Morigaon district. On the other hand, the number of successful candidates in the high madrassa examination this time stands at 5475 out total 7931. The percentage of successful candidates is 69.03. Of them, 230 have been placed in first division while 2172 have secured second division. The fifty per cent holders are set to get lap top this year.

Security has been tightened to ensure smooth conduct of the 63rd Republic Day celebrations on Thursday. Assam Chief Secretary N K Das reviewed security scenario when he was chairing a meeting in Dispur on Wednesday. Special security cover has been laid on major and important sectors like installations of OIL, ONGC and IOC, railways, airport, bus depots and other public places, sources said. During the British rule the Jorhat central jail was established in 1911. Preparation is going on to celebrate the completion of 100 years of this historic jail. The opening programme will be start from August 9 and concluded on December. In a conversation with the media, on January 24, Akon Bora, minister of Jails disclosed that, in association with this celebration its cells and the scaffold of the jail will be preserved and develop as museum for tourist attraction.
