The Board of Secondary Education, Assam on Friday announced the results of the HSLC and AHM examination it conducted in February-March. Gyandeep Sarma from Shankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan in Bokakhat, Bhaswati Deka from St. Mary’s English High School in Maligaon and Stuty Khound from Shankardev Sishu Vidya Niketan in Biswanath Chariali topped HSLC examination this time leaving many reputed schools red-faced.


The percentage of successful candidates this year is 69.63 where altogether 2,78, 704 candidates appeared. Altogether 1,94,067 candidates have cleared the HSLC examination out of whom 26,203 have been ranked in first division and 68,180 candidates have secured second division. The first fourth rank holders are Gyandeep Sarma from Shankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan in Bokakhat, Bhaswati Deka from St. Mary’s English High School in Maligaon and Stuty Khound from Shankardev Sishu Vidya Niketan in Biswanath Chariali. Shahinoor Rahman from Bijni Bandhab HS School, Parijat Priyadarshin from St Josephs Convent High School in Tezpur ranked second top position. Priyanka Bezbaruah from Udayan Santi Niketan in Bezera is smiling with third top position while the fourth position goes to Neha Sharma from Holy Child School in Guwahati with Priyanka Medhi from Lokpriya GNB High School in Morigaon district. On the other hand, the number of successful candidates in the high madrassa examination this time stands at 5475 out total 7931. The percentage of successful candidates is 69.03. Of them, 230 have been placed in first division while 2172 have secured second division. The fifty per cent holders are set to get lap top this year.

Assam board 10th Class Result in 2014 is going to be declared very soon. Candidates can check result from official website i.e.  resultsassam.nic.in.

A Japanese team is conducting an operation to exhume the remains of 11 soldiers at the Guwahati war cemetery on Wednesday. A team of three Japanese officials arrived is in Guwahati to take back the remains of the soldiers and perform their last rites in their own country. The Japanese government had approached the Centre to take back the remains of the soldiers and the exhumation was being carried out accordingly. The operation to exhume the remains was carried out in presence of officials of Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Explosives found in Lumding railway platform

Security forces seized a huge cache of explosive materials at Lumding Railway station on Wednesday amid speculations of an impending string of attack in the run up to the Republic Day. Four bags were spotted by the security forces at the platform No 2 at around 9-30 in the morning. These contained 600 geleatin sticks, 600 pieces of detonators and 12 packets of fuse wires were kept inside four bags.

Dr. Abani Chandra Goswami no more

Dr. Abani Chandra Goswami, a scientist who retired as the Head of the Department of Chemistry from Jorhat Institute of Science & Technology passed away this morning at his Jorhat residence. Dr. Goswami donated his Eyes to Jeuti Eye Bank and his body to Jorhat Medical College Hospital for further studies. He believed in life and pledged to help others live even after death and his promise went fullfilled. 9 outfits to surrender on Jan 24

Over one hundred and fifty hardcore militants are all set to surrender before chief minister Tarun Gogoi at a function on January 24. These militants would represent altogether nine outfits operating in Assam. These outfits include Adivasi Cobra Military of Assam, BCF, STF, APPA, ANLA, Hmar Peoples’ Convention, Kuki Liberation Army, UKDA, KRA. The surrender would pave the way for talks to end insurgency problems in Assam.

NSCN unleashes terror in Sivasagar: money looted

Suspected NSCN(IM) cadres are still unleashing a reign of terror along Assam-Nagaland border in Sivasagar district. A five member group of miscreants looted fifty thousand rupees in cash from a businessman in Charaideo on Tuesday. The incident took place at Namtola area in the evening when the miscreants took away the money from Pancham Shah at gun point and beat up him mercilessly. Even they unleashed terror with blank firing. Meanwhile, security forces are carrying out combing operation to nab the culprits.

Daring robbery in Siphung Exp: 5 injured

At least five persons have been injured at a sensational incident of robbery at a passenger train in Barpeta district on Tuesday. The incident took place at the Alipurduar bound Siphung Express in between Barpeta and Sorbhog. A gang of ten dacoits who were travelling in the train in the guise of passengers unless terror and took away money, gold ornaments, mobile handsets from the passengers at gun point. Five passengers have been injured. They were identified as Dulumoni Dutta, Khaneswar Roy, Pradeep Chaudhury, Jiban Saha and Manik Mahanayak who were administered preliminary treatment at Sarbhog.

Refinery fire accidental

The Gauhati refinery authorities claimed that the recent fire was not an ULFA sabotage. But all eyes are fixed on the soon to be filed enquiry report of a panel set up by the government. According to the enquiry report the refinery authorities received on Tuesday, the fire was an accident and not a sabotage by ULFA as the outfit claimed minutes after the fire broke out on January 10.

Passenger injured in dacoit attack

One person sustained injury when a gang of dacoits attacked him at the Siphung Express in Barpeta district on Tuesday. The incident took place at around 7 in the afternoon when the passenger express was travelling to Alipur Duar from Guwahati. The seven member gang was travelling in the train in the guise of passengers and tried to loot the passengers as the train was nearing Sorbhog. The injured person was identified as Jitumoni Dutta who sustained injuries in the scuffle.
