Heavy presence of security forces seems to have proved a futile effort to ensure safety and security of the people. Valuable properties worth Rs 5 lakh was looted from the Ganesh temple by thieves in Dispur on Wednesday. The incident took place in the mid night when it was raining outside. The thieves barged into the temple breaking the shutters and looted gold and silver which kept inside the almirahs. The thieves also stole an umbrella installed with the idol.
The incident came to light on Thursday morning and the temple and committee and devotees called it an utter failure of the government to ensure safety of life and properties even in Dispur. Dispur police have already registered a case.

The Centre on Tuesday virtually ruled out immediate release of Ranjan Daimary to expedite the peace process with NDFB. The message surfaced when a delegation of the Bodo National Conference delegation met home ministry joint secretary Shambhu Sigh in New Delhi demanding release of the NDFB chairman to expedite peace process. Sensational prevails in Nalbari following the death of a protestor when he was participating at a dharna in front of the municipality office here on Tuesday. A child died and eight others have been seriously injured when lightning struck two villages in Kamrup (Rural) district on Tuesday. The Assam government is in a move to increase reservation for women in local bodies to 50 per cent of the total seats. If it so happens, it would mark a rise from the current 33 per cent. Even after 36 hours police have no clue on the whereabouts of 16 dam workers kidnapped by suspected KPLT in Karbi Anglong district on Sunday. Search operation is going on in the hills district since suspected KPLT militants kidnapped the workers from private a hydel project at Longlit area under Manja police station.
