National Environment Awareness Campaign held

A day long program for National Environment Awareness Campaign 2012 was held at Dighaldari Kakati Middle English High school premises on May 29, 2012. The program was organized by International Computers that was supported by Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India and Assam Science Society. The theme for this year celebration was ‘Forest for Sustainable Livelihood’.


The programme was presided over by Chandra Nath , Headmaster, Dighaldari Kakatigaon Middle English High School. Delivering the opening speech putting light on the campaign with relevance of forest for sustainable livelihood , he stressed on the need of plantation of medicinal plants in schools ,colleges and houses.


Jatindra nath Paroi, ex- head, Department of Geography , Raha college, speaking on the occasion elaborately explained the need and importance of forests and trees in human life. He also introduced the students of the school with Green House effect and the Chipko Movement.


Dr. Shasindra Borthakur, Vet, and advocate , Guwahati High Court , in his speech appealed everyone to protect green environment and its surrounding wildlife. He introduced the students with the ‘ Jal, Jameen and Janghal Bachao’ movement by the Adivasis and spoke on the ‘Climate Refugee’ programme begun in Sundarvan.


Dimpi Bora of Indian Forest Service , also spoke on the occasion. In the begining ,a sapling plantation programme was also organized in the school premise in which Prafulla Nath, Phani Bora, Nileshawari Devi, Chairman, International Computers, Kukima Deka, Nilutpal Nath, Deepti Devi and the students of the school took part.

The residents of Raha town are fed up with the sub-standard construction works of drains in the Raha bazaar road. More than 200 people led by All Tiwa Students’ Union and All Assam Tribal Sangha , Raha unit,enraged at the partial looks of Raha Town Committee towards their several civic problems mainly in Tiwa areas under Raha Town today staged a mass demonstration before the Raha Circle Office and the Town committee’s office as well. The Raha unit of All Assam Students’ Union ( AASU ) today took out a rally at Raha on Thursday, in protest against the frequent power cut at Raha and its neighbouring areas.
