Transits of Venus are historically important events. By observing a transit, astronomers could for the first time calculate the distance from the Earth to the Sun with some accuracy.

The Transit of Venus occurs at intervals of 8 years, 121.5 years, 8 years and 105.5 years. The Transit of Venus occurs in pairs (two times - eight years apart) and then followed by a gap of over 100 years. The next one will occur on June 6th, 2012, which is second of the current pair. The first one of the current pair occurred on 8th June 2004.

The next Transit of Venus is due in June 6th, 2012. The following that transit will occur in December 11th 2117. Persons living now will not see it.
